Short Story

The Greener Toronto Fund supports grassroots groups across Toronto and the GTA that are helping to build a greener, healthier, and more sustainable world.  We also help people to find their passion and make a difference.

Signs of climate change and our impacts on the natural world surround us. Thankfully, there are solutions to the problems we face—and dedicated people doing inspiring and impactful work to turn things around.  We connect these people to each other, and with opportunities, resources, information and other people so they can do even more.

Please support us, so we can support them.  Together we can create a greener, healthier and more sustainable future!

Story

Solutions to the serious environmental challenges we face are in nearly every facet of our lives, including how we get around, heat and cool our homes, the food we eat, the things we buy, and the plants we grow.

Thousands of people across Toronto and the GTA are working to bring these solutions to life.  That’s why the Greener Toronto Fund partners with these dedicated individuals and groups, increasing their capacity to do the important work they do.

We do this by:

  • Bringing individuals and grassroots groups that are passionate about the climate and sustainability together to share ideas and work collaboratively, helping to energize group members and create new synergies through collective activities like the annual EcoFair;
  • Working with our member groups to employ, train and inspire the next generation of environmental champions, while helping member groups achieve high-impact results  including through the annual Canada Summer Jobs program; and
  • Amplifying our members’ efforts through outreach and communications to encourage other people to follow their lead, including through our monthly e-newsletter.

And with your help, we will hire an intern so we can do even more. With the intern’s help we will accelerate action on urgent environmental problems by:

  • Developing a new volunteer management program to recruit, onboard and engage new volunteers to help green the city;
  • Growing our public communications channels to increase publicity about the good work that our members do, promoting their events and initiatives, and highlighting volunteer opportunities;
  • Hosting collaborative events to increase communications with our individual and group members, the public, and other like-minded not-for-profit organizations; and
  • Fundraising and delivering a microgrant program to reduce barriers to grassroots environmental action.

The work we do helps to bring concerned people together, gives them hope, and supports them in delivering the solutions we all need.  With your support and by working together we will make a greener, healthier and more sustainable future for us all!
